DESCRIPTION OF PLACEMENT:
Specialty of Placement: Substance Misuse Drug and Alcohol.
Location: Chapman Barker Unit (CBU), Prestwich.
Name of Trust: Greater Manchester West NHS Mental Health Trust.
Type of Unit: Specialist Substance Misuse Treatment Service Hospital
and Community based.
This post offers an endorsement in Addiction Psychiatry.
The post offers comprehensive experience in the assessment and
treatment of individuals with alcohol and drug problems in both
community and inpatient settings. This includes tertiary outpatient
clinics, tier 4 inpatient services and community drug team clinics.
The post includes experience of new patient assessment, specialist
prescribing, detoxification and dual diagnosis work. The trainee
will be required to work with other Consultants in the service to
gain experience in different aspects of the service and achieve
the competencies set out in the Addiction Psychiatry Curriculum.
The Trainee will be involved in the assessment of new referrals,
second opinions, and inpatient work. There are opportunities to
visit wider alcohol services including liaison services, prison
clinics, dry houses, AA, Drs and dentist organizations. There are
good opportunities for teaching (junior doctors, nursing staff,
undergraduate), audit, and research and management experience.
CORE PLACEMENT: No
ROLE OF TRAINEE: To be involved in all aspects
of service including inpatient, outpatient and community assessment
and treatment. There are opportunities for wider experience of Substance
misuse services, including management, Audit and Research.
The timetable is flexible to meet the service and individual Trainee’s
needs.
SAFETY AND INDUCTION:
There is full induction into the Trust and at each site in terms
of safety.
Opportunities for training in breakaway, CPR and the use of ISCIS
are also available.
FACILITIES:
Trainee will have designated an office space with access to a computer
and internet.
SUPERVISION:
Supervision occurs on a weekly basis by Dr Daly (Educational Supervisor).
The consultants in the service not acting as educational supervisor
will be available for any clinical supervision.
TEACHING/ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE:
Opportunities for involvement in teaching undergraduate, postgraduate
and non-medical professionals.
AUDIT/RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES:
Very good opportunities and support for Audit and Research.
MANAGEMENT TRAINING:
Opportunities for involvement in hands on management experience
both within services and wider commissioning. Opportunities for
specific management projects.
