StR/ SpR POST DETAILS 2009-2010
DETAILS OF PLACEMENT:
The post is based at Victoria House, which is located at Morecambe.
The main areas of work in this post are in the community, linking
with both the Community Mental Health Team and Early Intervention
Service based in Victoria House but you will also do some work at
Ridge Lea Hospital, the inpatient base in Lancaster.
DUTIES OF TRAINEE AND EXPERIENCE GAINED:
The ST4-6 invovled in the assessment of new CMHT referrals: assessment,
formulation, diagnosis, risk-assessment, management planning and
corresponding/liaising with GPs and mental health professionals.
This involves working closely with Care Coordinators and other CMHT
members. There is opportunity to attend weekly CMHT referral meetings.
You will gain extensive experience and training in the EIS .You
will also be able to work within the CMHT and across the interface
with CRHT, developing your skills in managing more complex cases
in conjunction with Care Coordinators, in keeping with New Ways
of Working for Psychiatrists.
The ST4-6 trainee has opportunities to lead Multi-Disciplinary
Team and provide supervision to team members.
There is an ST1-3 trainee attached to the team.
ON CALL COMMITMENT:
On call duties are approximately 1 in 9 and rota is with the consultants.
During your on call you would cover areas of Lancaster and Morecambe.

The holder of this post is encouraged to take up a variety of teaching
opportunities. These include clinical teaching and supervision of
junior doctors; clinical teaching of medical students attached to
the team. For those interested there is opportunity to be tutor
for problem based learning teaching for the medical students. There
is also an opportunity to deliver quarterly lectures for service
users and carers.
RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES:
The ST4-6 Trainees will be given ample support for their existing
research projects.
MANAGEMENT TRAINING:
Trainees can attend local and joint consultants meetings, CMHT
governance groups and shadow managers.
ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE AVAILABLE:
Trainer is as a General Adult In-patient Consultant and can provide
experience especially for WPBA.
Trainees would be given ample support in gaining psychotherapy,
management and inpatient experience and this can be incorporated
in their timetable.
