ST4-6 Post: 2011-2012

Inpatient post/ Acute ward/ Ridge lea hospital, Lancaster/ General adult psychiatry.

1. DETAILS OF PLACEMENT
The post holder will be based at Lancaster Unit, Ridge Lea hospital, which is an 18 bedded mixed acute ward for patients suffering from functional mental illness for ages 18 & above.

2. DUTIES OF TRAINEE AND EXPERIENCE GAINED
The trainee will attend daily multi-disciplinary team meetings; conduct CPA meetings and patient reviews focussing on assessments, formulation, diagnosis, and risk assessment; undertake management planning; take responsibility for case load and supporting junior medical staff.

The post also requires liaising with other services, between in patient and community services such as crisis resolution and home treatment team to facilitate successful discharge; and also liaise with social services, OT, supported accommodation etc.

The post holder will undertake mental health act work, including assessments under mental health act and attend managers hearing and MHRT tribunals.
The trainee has opportunities to lead Multi-Disciplinary Team and provide supervision to team members.

3. ON CALL COMMITMENT
Joining the consultant on call rota, approx. 1 in 8, rota is currently under review. Frequency will be reduced, but areas covered will be expanded.

The holder of this post is encouraged to take up a variety of teaching opportunities. These include clinical teaching and supervision of junior doctors; clinical teaching of medical students attached to the team. For those interested there is opportunity to be tutor for problem based learning teaching for the medical students. There is also an opportunity to deliver quarterly lectures for service users and carers.

5. RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES
The ST4-6 Trainees will be given ample support for their existing research projects.

6. MANAGEMENT TRAINING
Trainees can attend local and joint consultants meetings, CCTT governance groups and shadow managers.
