StR/ SpR POST DETAILS 2009-2010

DESCRIPTION OF PLACEMENT

This is a general adult dedicated outpatient post. The post has various clinical commitments such as Reviewing/Managing Patients in Outpatient clinics which are urgent and routine appointments, Joint New Assessment clinics with other mental health professionals, setting up a special interest clinic of your choice. Other clinical commitments include opportunities in undertaking MHA work and Urgent assessments at home.

The ST4-6 Post offers opportunities to lead Multi-Disciplinary Team and provide supervision to team members.

There are number of opportunities for ST4-6 Trainee’s in various areas such as Medico-legal Work, Attending MAPPA meetings, Chairing complex case meetings and Professionals Meeting.
There are number of opportunities of completing Audits, Gaining various Managerial and leadership skills.
The ST4-6 will have weekly supervision and sessions for research and special interest.

DUTIES OF SPR AND EXPERIENCE GAINED

- Trainee (ST4-6) can develop various clinical and non clinical skills during this placement.
- ST4-6 Trainee can undertake various clinical commitments Semi-Independently from the consultant such as reviewing patients in Outpatient clinics which has urgent and routine appointments, Joint New Assessment clinics with other mental health professionals and setting up a special interest clinic of your choice
- The ST 4-6 trainee has opportunities in undertaking MHA work and Urgent assessments at home.
- The ST4-6 trainee has opportunities to lead Multi-Disciplinary Team and provide supervision to team members.
- ST4-6 trainee attends weekly post graduate meeting and has opportunities to active take part in teaching the junior trainee’s.
- Team has a CT1 doctor in the team and our trainee can provide supervision to the CT1 doctor and improve supervision skills.
- Team has a Medical students placed in our team intermittently and our trainee can take an active role in teaching Medical students.
- There are number of opportunities for ST4-6 Trainee’s in various areas such as Medico-legal Work, Attending MAPPA meetings, Chairing complex case meetings and Professionals Meeting.
- There are number of opportunities of completing Audits, Gaining various Managerial and leadership skills.
- ST4-6 trainee will get weekly supervision and sessions for research and special interest.


ON CALL COMMITMENT

One in 9 On call shift (24 hours) Covering a wide area, The on call commitment includes Taking part in Urgent and Difficult Assessments in community and inpatient setting, MHA Work and providing supervision/guidance to junior doctors on management of patients.
The pay banding is 1B.

TEACHING / ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE

We have medical students placed with us intermittently and have a CT1 doctor, the ST4-6 Trainee has lots of opportunities to teach medical students, CT1 doctor and provide appropriate guidance and supervision. This role could be extended to other members of the team.
We have SpR teaching session on Wednesday afternoon the ST4-6 Trainee can take active take part in teaching junior doctors.

RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES

There are a few Academic Psychiatrists within the trust with various Research projects that are ongoing an interested candidate could get guidance/ supervision from them to enhance their skills.

MANAGEMENT TRAINING

There are number of opportunities such as attending various managerial meetings, consultant meetings.
There are various opportunities to improve leadership skills, organising skills, chairing skills within the team.

ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE AVAILABLE

The trainee is well supported on developing his or her special interest by independently running a special interest clinic of their choice with minimal level of supervision.

IMPORTANT ADDITIONAL DETAILS

This is not a Core Post but the trainee could use Special interest session in inpatient setting to get inpatient experience.
