StR/ SpR POST DETAILS 2009-2010

DESCRIPTION OF PLACEMENT

Out patient work at the Brian hore, Wentworth house.
Inpatient work at Wentworth.

DUTIES OF SPR AND EXPERIENCE GAINED

Assessment and management of patients with alcohol dependence, dual diagnosis patients.

Assessment of homeless clients.

Assessment of patients for both inpatient and out patient detox.

Emergency assessments in the community along with CAT workers.

Gain skills in non pharmacological therapies for alcohol dependence.

Prescribing and supervising day detox.

Undertaking specialised prescription i.e. antI craving drugs.

Group work on daily support group and intensive day patient programme

Liaison work with general hospitals, criminal justice system, probation officers.

14 week motivational training.

There is an ST1-3 trainee in the team.


ON CALL COMMITMENT

Cover the south site during the day, one session on a fixed day (Wednesday).

City wide rota for out of hours.

Ample opportunities to develop training skills Medical students attend for sessions most weeks. FY2 doctor 1/7, Opportunities to lecture and deliver group training.

RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES

Potential research projects available in the Alcohol, and Drug Directorate.

MANAGEMENT TRAINING

Currently BHU is in the process of developing a nurse led clinic for prescribing disulfiram. There would be plenty of opportunity for the SPR to take a lead in developing the service. Dr Daly is Lead Consultant for A+DD and is able to develop project work and hands on managerial experience.

ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE AVAILABLE

Special interest session at both the Chapman Barker Unit which is an in patient alcohol and drug treatment centre and at the Manchester drug clinic which is a community drug clinic.

Trainee can go on a course for motivational training conducted by psychologist at prestwitch hospital.
