Description of placement
This post provides an exciting opportunity to work to major
teaching hospital and cancer research centre. Six months in this
placement has been accredited by the College for the role of the
trainee liaison teaching.
The role of the trainee: to assist in the provision of a psychiatric
liaison service to the regional cancer hospital and regional cancer
genetics service.
To develop specific therapeutic skills (e.g. CBT intervention for
altered body image) for use with cancer patients.
To develop teaching skills (e.g. communications training) relevant
to the multidisciplinary oncology team.
To conduct research in some aspect of Psycho-Oncology.
Facilities
Close association with the School of Psychiatry and Behavioural
Medicine, Manchester Royal Infirmary, for academic activities (case
conferences and journal clubs, etc), contact with other SpR’s
and research meetings.
Integration with the Cancer Research UK Psychological Medicine
Group for multidisciplinary professional contact, research expertise
and communication skills training.
Integration with the Support and Palliative Care Services Directorate,
Christie Hospital, for multidisciplinary team contact, meetings
and activities.
Close links with the Christie Hospital Audit and Quality Assurance
department for expertise in clinical audit.
