Description of placement
The main areas of work in this post are in the community, linking with both the Community Mental Health Team and Early Intervention Service based in Victoria House in Morecambe, but you will also do some work at Ridge Lea Hospital, the inpatient base in Lancaster

ROLE OF THE TRAINEE:

1. Outpatient work and supervision of in-patients: You will gain extensive experience and training in one of the best resourced EIS teams in the country. You will also be able to work within the CMHT and across the interface with CRHT, developing your skills in managing more complex cases in conjunction with Care Coordinators, in keeping with New Ways of Working for Psychiatrists. The inpatient work will include CPA reviews and also assessments for early discharge to Home Treatment.

2. Management Training: Trainees can attend regular multidisciplinary management meetings locally in a shadowing role and also the mental health reference group convened by the local practice based commissioning team to gain experience of both provider side issues as well as commissioning.

3. On-call commitment: 1:8, on call pay banding 2B.

4. Research: Trainees will be given time to further existing research projects or develop new ones with the support of the Academic Centre based at the Lantern Centre, Preston, headed by Professor Max Marshall. Audit projects will be supported by staff within the Clinical Governance Unit of Lancashire Care Trust.

5. Teaching: Medical students come from Liverpool University and you will have the opportunity when/if trained to do PBL sessions as well as other teaching, both formal and informal. There is ample opportunity to support specialty registrars preparing for MRCPsych examination.

6. Special interests : Community Drug Team/Dual Diagnosis Clinics. Sessions working with the CRHT.
