Role of Trainee
1. Outpatient work and supervision of in-patients: To participate in the general functioning of the team. To provide assessment and treatment for an identified caseload. To support other members of the team. To participate in consultation and service development/management as appropriate. To attend weekly ward round. To attend weekly supervision with consultant. To attend weekly multi-disciplinary allocation and supervision meetings. The trainee will gain experience of psychiatric assessment of adolescents and treatment. The main diagnostic areas include depression, ‘Personality disorder spectrum’ – severe self harm, Anxiety disorders, Eating disorders, OCD. The trainee will be working at the transition between CAMHS and AMHS and will be able to observe the differences in the services including key issues in accessibility and effectiveness to those at different levels of maturity.

2. Management Training: The trainee will gain experience of an integrated multi-disciplinary approach. The SpR will be invited to attend the Service Business Meeting and the CAMHS Senior Management Group. There will be opportunities to be involved in management activities at both an operational and strategic level and these can be tailored to the specific training needs of the SpR.

3. On-call commitment: Adult psychiatry 2nd on call for East Cheshire

4. Research: The Consultant is actively engaged in current research and audit projects and there are numerous opportunities for projects of varying length arising from these. There is much service development around this age group and little evaluation and assessment, therefore there are numerous opportunities for this type of work and for publications.
5. Teaching: The SpR will be expected to contribute to a number of training forums:
including CAMHS Multi-disciplinary training, Psychiatry SHO training, Medical student CAMHS placements and Multi-agency/Primary Care training opportunities arising on a regular basis.

6. Additional experiences available: A developmental perspective underpins the functioning of the team both in terms of the individual and the family. The team has a focus on transition.

7. Special interest: A special interest session can be offered by the service which can be tailored to the needs of the trainee e.g. general experience of older adolescent psychiatry, specific work relating to transition etc.
