Also some experience on inpatient psychiatric ward in liaison capacity.
Assertive outreach team experience (as 2 members incorporated within the team).

ROLE OF TRAINEE:

Exposure to common psychiatric disorders in general adult psychiatry. This is not an inner city area so there may be a different range of problems (possible more affective illnesses) present compared to inner city posts. Also there is a need to develop skills in discussing treatment options and illness models with people who are not infrequently educated to a high level.

There is an opportunity to do a maternity teaching session on post natal psychiatric problems. The audience includes midwives, health visitors and junior medical staff. There are video recording facilities that can be used for teaching interview skills.

AUDIT/RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES:

There are opportunities for audit in the department. Research activity is supported although currently there is not a significant research program within the department.

MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE:

Depending on current vacancies, there may be an opportunity to become involved in the local LNC. Dr Ring is keen for trainees to take this opportunity if available. Trainees are encouraged to attend consultant management meeting and medical staffing meetings. Trainees receive encouragement to take ownership of relevant service/ management issues and develop them accordingly. There will likely be ongoing service redevelopment in the trust for which trainees may be able to identify a role.

ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE AVAILABLE:

There are a variety of interesting specialities such as early intervention service, eating disorders service, 16-19 service, crisis resolution + home treatment and forensic services. Special interest sessions could be taken in these areas.
