DESCRIPTION OF PLACEMENT:
General Adult Psychiatry in the setting of a teaching hospital and a very busy inner city catchment area.

CORE PLACEMENT: Yes

ROLE OF TRAINEE:
New outpatient clinic. Follow up outpatient clinic. Inpatients – usually 10 – 12. Liaise with community team. Community visits.

FACILITIES:
Office – usually shared with another SpR. Internet access. Facility to park onsite. Library. Academic department is housed in the same building.

SUPERVISION: Weekly by Consultant

TEACHING/ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE:
SpR takes lead in organising teaching for medical students attached to the firm. Opportunities for other teaching are available.

AUDIT/RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES: The team is involved in audit and help can be offered.

MANAGEMENT TRAINING:
Dr. Garvey is Clinical Director for Central Manchester and can provide the opportunity for management experience if requested

ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE AVAILABLE:
Dr. Garvey also has responsibility for Assertive Outreach Services.
