1. DETAILS OF PLACEMENT (LOCATION, POPULATION, INPATIENT OR OUTPATIENT,
BEDS)
The post is community focussed with opportunities through this for
working in partnership with two different teams. The post is with
the Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Service in central Manchester
which offers a service to half of the geographical area of central
Manchester. There are also opportunities to do out-patient and community
work with a CMHT. This post provides excellent opportunities to
develop skills in acute general psychiatry and risk management.
The medical input within CRHT is to those patients requiring a more
medical pathway and provides experience of home treatment works
with a complex group of clients. The trainee will gain extensive
experience of a busy community patch, with high levels of morbidity
and co morbid substance misuse

2. DETAILS OF ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPERIENCE
TRAINEE WILL GAIN
Allocation Meeting: Attending the weekly allocation meeting with
the Community Mental Health Team will help to develop skills in
multi-professional working.
Crisis team work: Work load includes a weekly team
meeting similar to a ward round), arranging medical review of patients
outside of this including conducting assessments in patients homes.
Liaison with GP’s, social services and formulation of long
term plan post CRHT involvement. .
Outpatient Work: The trainee can be involved in
outpatient clinic work linked to one CMHT .
Medico legal work: There may be some medico-legal
work via the CRHT and CMHT for court reports relating to issues
such as family court and civil proceedings. In the CRHT there are
instances to gain experience of conducting Mental Health Act Assessments.
Any other clinical commitment: Medical student
clinical teaching.
3. JUNIOR DOCTOR SUPPORT AND SUPERVISION
There is an ST1-3 doctor in the team. There is a core trainee attached
to the team and providing supervision and support will be part of
the post holder responsibilities.
4. ON CALL COMMITMENT AND PAY BANDING
City-wide rota (covering MRI, Wythenshawe Hospital and NMGH). 1:22.
Daytime/weekend/night shift on-calls are now all part of citywide
rota.

5. TEACHING / SUPERVISION / ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE
There are regular attachments from medical students. Provision of
teaching is encouraged and PBL and OSCE training is available via
Manchester university to allow trainees to facilitate students PBL
and OSCE groups.
There are ample opportunities to facilitate teaching sessions for
medical students and core trainees (like OSCE teaching, giving tutorials,
small group teaching and case-based discussions).
6. AUDIT / RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES
The educational supervisor will support research in the department
and audit is an expected part of the attachment.
The trainee will be encouraged to develop or participate in research
activity as part of postgraduate degree or as part of training programme
research experience.
7. MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE
There are a number of opportunities to take part in the management
experience. Clinical management of case load as well as service
development given the current changes within the structure of the
services within Manchester.
