1. DETAILS OF PLACEMENT (LOCATION, POPULATION, INPATIENT
OR OUTPATIENT, BEDS)
This post is a community based rehabilitation job, the core component
of the job being involved in the management of patients in 2 units:
Bramley Street – 12 bedded community rehabilitation unit
Pendlebury House – 10 bedded community rehabilitation unit

2. DETAILS OF ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPERIENCE
TRAINEE WILL GAIN
Community Work: The trainee will be involved in ward rounds at
the rehabilitation units, clinical meetings, business meeting and
referral meetings. The trainee will be involved in assessing rehabilitation
patients who have been referred to the service. This will often
be done with another member of staff and discussed in supervision.
Inpatient Work: Dr. Hughes is the lead consultant for inpatients
and is the responsible clinician for several inpatients at Meadowbrook.
The trainee will have the option of having involvement with inpatient
work, if part of their personal development plan.
Any other clinical opportunities: There will be opportunities in
the job for research/ special interest sessions/ management/ leadership
work, according to trainee’s personal development plan.
3. JUNIOR DOCTOR SUPPORT AND SUPERVISION
There is an ST1-3 doctor and a Foundation Doctor, attached to the
inpatient team. The trainee with have the opportunity to supervise
these doctors.
4. ON CALL COMMITMENT AND PAY BANDING
Out of hours on-call: Covers Meadowbrook Hospital, Salford and the
alcohol unit at Prestwich.
Banding: 1C (opportunities for regular locum work which makes income
in parity with other places with higher bandings)
5. TEACHING / SUPERVISION / ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE
There will also be extensive opportunities to be involved in teaching
medical students, including problem based learning, tutorials and
presentation skills.
6. AUDIT / RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES
The educational supervisor will support research in the department
and audit is an expected part of the attachment.
7. MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE
There are a number of opportunities to take part in the managerial
processes behind developing the services. The trainee will have
opportunities to develop his/her own management project.
8. ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE AVAILABLE
The trainee will gain experience as a senior psychiatrist supervising
junior doctors with ECT.
