StR/ SpR POST DETAILS 2009-2010

DETAILS/DESCRIPTION OF PLACEMENT:

This is a rehabilitation psychiatry post. All the day time work is based in the Community. There are 2 community based hospitals – Bramley Street and Pendlebury House. There are a range of other placements managed by the NHS, Social Services and the voluntary sector.

EXPERIENCE GAINED AND DUTIES OF TRAINEES:

• Working with a rehabilitation multi-disciplinary team which includes Psychology, OT, Social Work, Support Workers, Advanced Practitioner and Associate Specialist.
• Multidisciplinary needs assessment and risk management plans for patients with long-term illnesses.
• Use of the Mental Health Act including CTO for severe and enduring mental illness.
• Service evaluation and measuring of quality.
• Working within a paper light system.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE:

The post has medical students throughout the academic year. The trainer is involved in training a GP trainee and a core trainee.

ON CALL COMMITMENT:

1:12 on-call – outside normal working hours.
No day time on-call.

RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES:

The department has close links with the University of Manchester. Several of the other Consultants are actively involved in research and the trainer can provide advice regarding appropriate supervisors for research.

MANAGEMENT TRAINING:

The trainer is a lead Consultant in Salford and is a member of the District Management Team. He is actively involved in management in the Directorate and at Trust level and can create training opportunities to address the trainees’ needs.

ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE AVAILABLE:

Trainer also works part time as a General Adult In-patient Consultant and can provide experience especially for WPBA.

Trainer involved in governance, management and service development.

Trainer actively involved in current issues in the Trust – PBR, revalidation, CQUIN, Cost Improvement Plan, Job Planning, Appraisal.
