1. DETAILS OF PLACEMENT (LOCATION, POPULATION, INPATIENT OR OUTPATIENT, BEDS)
The post covers inpatient work. The number of inpatients at any given time can vary. There is regular liaison and interaction with the Community Mental Health Team

2. DETAILS OF ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPERIENCE TRAINEE WILL GAIN

Inpatient work. The responsibility of the trainee is to take part in the ward rounds and lead these when appropriate. The trainee will also perform ward assessments inbetween ward rounds and advise junior medical staff and nursing staff as appropriate. The trainer is readily available for advice when needed

Outpatient Work: There is no outpatient work in this job
Allocation Meeting: There is a weekly Community Mental Health Team meeting which the trainee is expected to provide input

Medico legal work: The trainee will be encouraged to prepare medico-legal reports and reports for MHRT and Manager’s Hearings under direct supervision of Dr. Strickland.

3. JUNIOR DOCTOR SUPPORT AND SUPERVISION
There is an ST1-3 doctor in the team. There is a core trainee attached to the team and providing supervision and support will be part of the post holder responsibilities.

4. ON CALL COMMITMENT AND PAY BANDING
Daytime on-call: There is no daytime on-call work
Out of hours on-call
1:11 middle-grade rota
Banding: 1B

5. TEACHING / SUPERVISION / ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE
There are regular attachments from medical students along with students on SSC and Project Option modules. Provision of teaching is encouraged and PBL and OSCE training is provided to allow trainees to facilitate students PBL and OSCE groups.
There are ample opportunities to facilitate teaching sessions for medical students and core trainees (like video teaching, giving tutorials, small group teaching and case-based discussions).

6. AUDIT / RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES
The educational supervisor will support research in the department and audit is an expected part of the attachment.
If the trainee has any research interests this will be supported

7. MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE
The trainee will be encouraged and supported to develop his/hermanagement experience. Formal experience can also be gained via Dr. Colgan

8. ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE AVAILABLE
For interested trainees there is the opportunity to gain experience in Prison Psychiatry at Forest Bank
