1. DETAILS OF PLACEMENT (LOCATION, POPULATION, INPATIENT
OR OUTPATIENT, BEDS)
This Post is mainly an in-patient base and the SPR supports Dr Zamani’s
Team for covering 10 acute general adult inpatient beds at the Bronte
Ward, Laureate House. Bronte mainly accepts patients from the South
Locality and occasionally from other areas when number of beds in
other area is short.
SPR as a part of the Team also provides support to two community
Rehabilitation Inpatient service at Millbrook independent Hospital
(Wythenshawe area) and Douglas House (Didsbury area).
Core Placement: Mainly inpatient experience is
provided

2. DETAILS OF ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPERIENCE
TRAINEE WILL GAIN
Outpatient Work: There is no outpatient commitment in this post.
Weekly Bed Management Meeting: Attending the weekly bed management
Meeting will help to develop clinical management skills in multi-professional
setting.
Community Work: Is mainly focused on clinical and psychiatric support
to Millbrook and Douglas House independent Hospital. This include
attending Ward rounds, CPAs, MHRT and Manager’s Hearing meetings
in addition to weekly assessment and treatment of the in-patients
under supervision.
Inpatient Work: Activities include attending the regular weekly
ward rounds and taking part in assessing and managing specific cases
(under supervision of Dr Zamani). This may also involve liaising
with other services, leading the Ward rounds in the Consultant absence
and executing plans and treatment under supervision..
Medico legal work: Trainee will be encouraged to prepare medico-legal
reports and reports for MHRT and Manager’s Hearings under
direct supervision of Dr Zamani. There will be an expectation that
the trainee will develop skills in presenting cases during these
proceedings.

3. JUNIOR DOCTOR SUPPORT AND SUPERVISION
There is an ST1-3 (GP or Psychiatry trainee) core trainee doctor
in the team. Providing supervision and support of the doctor will
be part of the post holder responsibilities.
4. ON CALL COMMITMENT AND PAY BANDING
Daytime on-call: Covering urgent assessments in Manchester area
(mainly Section 135/136 and MHA assessments in A&Es) and providing
support for on-call junior doctor and Psychiatric Liaison Teams(A&E)
City wide. Currently 1:16 -1:18 approximately one session per two
weeks.
Out of hours on-call: City-wide rota (covering MRI, Wythenshawe
Hospital and NMGH). As above
5. TEACHING / SUPERVISION / ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE
A small group of medical students is regularly attached to the Team
along with students on SSC and Project Option modules. Provision
of teaching is encouraged and PBL and OSCE training is provided
to allow trainees to facilitate students PBL and OSCE groups.
There are opportunities to facilitate teaching sessions for medical
students and core trainees (like video teaching, giving tutorials,
small group teaching and case-based discussions).
6. AUDIT / RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES
The educational supervisor will support research in the department
and audit is an expected part of the attachment.
The trainee will be encouraged to develop or participate in research
activity as part of postgraduate degree or as part of training programme
research experience.
7. MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE
There may be opportunities to take part in the managerial processes
behind developing the services.
The trainee may get support to develop his/her own management project.
