1. DETAILS OF PLACEMENT
This is an in-patient focused job dealing with acutely unwell patient There is a lot of scope to improve knowledge of the Mental Health Act. Inpatient care is provided on Bronte Ward, Laureate House. The multidisciplinary team working on Bronte Ward are experienced and aim to provide a high quality of care with a high level of patient satisfaction. There is much opportunity to liaise with other teams who input to the ward including the CRHT, CMHT, and EIS.
The post also offers the opportunity to work in the community setting with Dr Richard Hopkins. These two sessions include both the opportunity to work in the outpatient setting and community setting as part of a large community team.

2. DETAILS OF ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPERIENCE TRAINEE WILL GAIN

Outpatient Work: To provide input to two community clinics per week under the supervision of Dr Hopkins, Consultant Psychiatrist.

Community Work: The trainee will take part in organising domiciliary visits to assess and manage patients in their own homes environments.

Inpatient Work: The inpatient work is based on Bronte Ward. Acutely unwell patients are admitted here for stabilisation of their mental state. Prompt discharge is aimed to the community, working closely with the CRHT and relevant CMHT. The trainee would be expected to take part in adult acute ward rounds on Bronte Ward and to help coordinate the day to day care of these patients.

To be the medical representative at tribunals/management meetings.
To take an active part in medical student and junior doctor teaching.

Medico legal work: The trainee will be encouraged to prepare medico-legal reports and reports for MHRT and Manager’s Hearings under direct supervision of Dr Jones. There will be also an expectation that the trainee will develop skills in presenting cases during these proceedings.

Core Clinic Work: Assessment and treatment of acutely unwell patients in the inpatient setting; Assessments of patients in the community setting; Emergency work; Coordination of pharmacological, psychological and social interventions

3. JUNIOR DOCTOR SUPPORT AND SUPERVISION
There is an ST1-3 doctor in the team. There is a core trainee attached to the team and providing supervision and support will be part of the post holder responsibilities.

4. ON CALL COMMITMENT AND PAY BANDING
Out of hour’s on-call: City-wide rota (covering MRI, Wythenshawe Hospital and NMGH). 1:18
There is an on-call Consultant to contact at all times.
Banding: 1B

5. TEACHING / SUPERVISION / ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE
There are regular attachments from medical students along with students on SSC and Project Option modules. Provision of teaching is encouraged and PBL and OSCE training is provided to allow trainees to facilitate students PBL and OSCE groups.
There are ample opportunities to facilitate teaching sessions for medical students and core trainees (like video teaching, giving tutorials, small group teaching and case-based discussions).

6. AUDIT / RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES
The educational supervisor will support research in the department and audit is an expected part of the attachment.
The trainee will be encouraged to develop or participate in research activity as part of postgraduate degree or as part of training programme research experience.

7. MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE
Plenty! Opportunity to be rota master, SpR rep, teaching coordinator, to attend consultant meetings and to take part in a management project
The trainee will be encouraged and supported to develop his/her own management project.

8. ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE AVAILABLE
Lots of time to supervise/teach SHOs.
Plenty of opportunity to genuinely work as part of a team and to spend time working with patients.
Special Interest Sessions
The trainee will have half a day a week when he/she will attend any specialist interest sessions. So far trainees working with me have involved themselves with the Homeless Team, management projects, eating disorders motivational interviewing and many others.

Office Trainee will share an office with one other ST4-6 trainee.
Trainee will have office based facilities including access to a computer, AMIGOS and internet.
