StR/ SpR POST DETAILS 2009-2010
DETAILS OF PLACEMENT:
Community Psychiatry post with an opportunity to work with consultants
Dr Jenny Massie (Educational Supervisor) and Dr Suraya Khan that
provides experience of working within CMHT’s.
Out-patient clinics –new and follow up cases. There is also
an opportunity to do a community clinic.
There is an ST 1-3 trainee linked to Dr Khan’s team.
DUTIES OF TRAINEE AND EXPERIENCE GAINED:
Managing out-patient case load.
Working with CMHT/chairing meetings and supervising MDT etc.
Mental Health Act assessments.
Teaching medical students.
ON CALL COMMITMENT:
1:17 citywide on call rota covering the whole of Manchester with
Band 1B
Daytime on call rota 1:8 within working hours at Wythenshawe Hospital
TEACHING / ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE:
Opportunity to do PBL/OSCE courses to be approved trainers in order
to teach undergraduate students.
Considerable teaching opportunity in form of doing video teaching
sessions/conducting mock OSCE groups/PBL/writing OSCE stations.
RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES:
Close links with academic staff and good opportunity for Research
available in the Department though not directly linked to this posting.
MANAGEMENT TRAINING:
The Educational Supervisor and department is supportive of trainees
who would like to become involved in management activities e.g.
shadowing/attending management meetings.
Time will be provided within the post to facilitate management development.

IMPORTANT ADDITIONAL DETAILS:
This post is a dedicated community post with no inpatient commitments
and hence not a core post.
There is no endorsement offered in this post.
The Educational Supervisor is a part-time consultant currently and
Dr Khan is a full time consultant.
The highlight of this post is that the Educational Supervisor offers
considerable support and flexibility in accommodating the trainee’s
training requirements and needs and mould the timetable accordingly
to provide adequate time and exposure to meet these.
