The North West Higher Training Scheme in Psychiatry is one of the largest in the country. I believe that we are able to offer training experiences of high quality with a wide variety of different training experiences. The North West is an excellent place to live, and Manchester is now a vibrant and interesting city with many cultural and sporting activities.
The Scheme has close links with the University Department of Psychiatry in Manchester, which is one of the biggest in the country with many internationally renowned professors and academic staff. All trainees are encouraged to develop research interests with support from relevant academics or other consultant supervisors.
The North West is a fantastic place to live, as one can have all the benefits of city life in addition to being able to get out into the countryside of North Wales, the Lake District, the North Yorkshire Moors and Derbyshire within one to two hours of the city centre. There are many consultant vacancies in the North West and trainees who leave the Scheme have no trouble at present in finding good quality consultant posts.
I would very much like to welcome you to the Scheme or to encourage you to apply to the Scheme if you are thinking of a higher training in general or old age psychiatry.
Yours sincerely,
Dr Amanda Poynton
